Donβt know where to start in tech? ππΎ Focus on a problem first π π‘
This week I attended an Instagram live by @ojtcode where @be.great shared amazing tips for aspiring developers. One of them particularly resonated with me because it reminded me of something I used to do when I was learning how to code but somehow forgot about along the way:
When you know you want to learn how to code, but donβt know what language or coding stack to pick up first, pick a problem! Pick any problem you want to solve, or come up with an idea for an app or software which you think will solve a need (or will just be really cool to invent or replicate).
Why is this so important?
Because it will help you begin with the end in mind!
You will still need to do some research in order to learn the technical skills needed to realize your idea but the difference between this approach and googling βwhat programming language should I learn firstβ is that you would be researching something specific like, βHow to code a fashion website or virtual reality gameβ, which is much more motivating.
Pick a problem that you want to solve first, THEN learn the technical skills needed to solve that problem.
If you need some ideas of things you can build, here are a few you can get started with:
- A fashion website
- Your own replica of Amazon (e-commerce website)
- Your own social network app
- A chatting app
- Your own Alexa or Google home
- An app that can predict successful stocks
- A travelling site
